Did you know it’s illegal to own only one guinea pig in Switzerland? This may sound a bit strict, but the reason this is, is actually really sweet. Guinea pigs are social animals and can become depressed if they are not socialized properly. In the wild (yes, wild guinea pigs exist), guinea pigs live in groups of ten called herds. It’s considered abuse to own only one guinea pig per household. So, if you ever find yourself wanting a guinea pig, maybe think of buying two (even though it’s legal to own one in the U.S.), so you’re not hurting the guinea pig and helping it instead.
