“What a night, huh…” Yumi said as she blinked at the clock striking 8 am.
“Yeah… we should do this again at some point…” Emu turned over to Yumi. Yumi sat up as she looked like she had just realized something.
“The plant…” Yumi whispered in confusion.
“Hm?” Emu said in an intrigued tone.
“It’s nothing…” Yumi looked around the room. “You should get going now… Your mother Haruka is probably waiting for you by now…”
“Aw… well okay… at least we have a few weeks off of school…” Emu said disappointedly, as she began to pack up her sleeping bag and other things. “Bye…” Emu walked downstairs.
“Wait! I think you forgot-!” Emu was already out the door. Sigh…
-10 days later-
“Hey! Emu!” Yumi shouted from a distance. “Isn’t it great that we got to come back to school this early?!” Yumi noticed that Emu was talking to another girl. “Oh, hi Ichika…” Yumi said in a confused tone. “Emu…?” Emu sat down at a small picnic table with four others; Ichika, Shizuku, Kohane, and Mizuki. “I thought you were going to sit with me…”
“Uhm,” Kohane chimed in. “You aren’t in this friend group, are you?” She said in a very annoyed tone.
“Azusawa…?” Yumi said scarcely.
“Oh, this isn’t some sort of formal dance, is it?” Kohane asked in a mischievous voice. “You’d be better off calling me Kohane.”
“Okay, Kohane, this is not about that though, and is Emu in your friend group either?”
“Yes I am, and I am sitting here, too.” Emu said in a very annoyed tone. Suddenly the bell rang and they all went into their lines.
“Today you all should have come up with your ideas for your project.” Ms. Yoisaki said. “Everyone, get into groups and start working!”
Yumi ran up to Emu. “Do you want to work with me on this? I’m doing my project on UTAU if you want to join!” Yumi asked eagerly.
“Ha! As if I would work on a project about UTAU!” Emu said mockingly. “I’m gonna work on the history of mochis with Shizuku and Mizuki.”
“Right… I forgot they were in our class…” Yumi got to work on her project, alone. The lunch bell rang, and Yumi immediately asked Emu if she wanted to sit by her. Emu scoffed.
“As if! No way!” She gestured for Yumi to go away.
“But…” Yumi walked away. She asked Emu if she wanted to hang out with her after school, and she responded with no. She asked Emu for many different things, but always got rejected with the same harsh no. She even asked for Emu to sit next to her on the bus, but still a no. This cycle continued for weeks. Yumi asked Emu for less and less things as the days went by. Eventually, a day came along when Yumi didn’t ask Emu for anything. That was one of the hardest days of her life. Once she had gotten home that day, she ran up to her room and immediately tried to invite Emu over for a sleepover since it was the weekend now. “Emu! Wanna come over for a sleepover?” she asked.
“What is wrong with you?!” She heard Emu yell through the phone. “I will never hang out with you ever again you brat!”
“But-” Yumi was cut off with more of Emu’s yelling.
“I’LL HATE YOU MORE THAN YOU’LL EVER KNOW!!!!!!” Emu screamed.
Yumi heard a “Beep!” and put the phone down. A tear of sadness, confusion, and shock ran down her cheek.
