Chapter 8:
Gwennora
When I woke up, I wanted to grin and dance. I was right!!!!! But then my happiness was soon drowned out when I remembered that I was right about something bad. Oh…. I sat up and hit my head on something. Ow. When I looked up to see what it was, it was the roof of a cave. I rolled over and crawled over to the exit. I almost got there, until the roof started moving. Wait, moving? From what I know, cave roofs don’t move. I touched and felt…fabric?!?!? What was this stuff?!?!? It started to pull off, so I sat up to see what it was. Was that…
“Yep… It’s a blanket full of rocks.”
I looked up to see who it was, and it was a boy who looked like he was 15, but I was so exhausted that it could probably be actually a 5 year old who thought I was his missing dog.
“It makes your spine nice and strong!” he beamed.
“And bruised, bleeding, broken…” started someone else.
“Hey! It’s not that bad!” he argued.
“Try telling that to Marcelina…” said the voice.
The boy pulled a face that made me inch away 3 feet from the “blanket”. He looked back at me. “Hey, are you hungry? You must be after laying on that cold floor!”
He came over. Cold floor? My mind shot back to Aaron. I knew I would have to remain very calm, or else this boy might throw the rock blanket at me to try to calm me down, and I’m pretty sure that is classified as a deadly weapon.
“Um… Did you find me with a boy with white hair?”
The boy looked at me and said, “Nope! All good! All by yourself when we found you!”
My heart sank, but I pretended I didn’t mind. I asked the boy if he might have seen him somewhere while eying the rock blanket. He shook his head saying he would have remembered if he had. If that was even possible, my heart sank even deeper.
“Would you like to sleep now? It was already pretty late when you woke up…”
I was going to say no, just to avoid the rock blanket, but then the voice from before came back saying, “For Heaven’s sake, get rid of the rock blanket! Then she came out and looked at me. She had beautiful long black hair and whispered, “Come in here, I got some blankets.” Then she added, “Real ones.”
