Chapter 1: Lea
There’s one. I couldn’t help but smile and make eye contact at my friend. She wasn’t really my friend though, but she was nice to me on the bus. She walked away giggling, but not in a good way. Ouch. Clenching my lunch tray, I sat alone in the cafeteria again. Just me and my pasta. Yummy.
Looking around, I saw a girl with brown hair. Really brown hair. Surprisingly, I didn’t recognize her. She was probably new. When you’re lonely, you do a lot of observing. Suddenly, she looked over at me, and I quickly turned around. More not good giggling. She had friends already. I have been at this school for a year and still don’t have friends.
I look around some more, and I see someone walking towards me. Wow. I turned around to see if anyone was behind me. There wasn’t. Not until she sat there. I smiled.
She quickly waved, “Can I sit here? I’m bored.”
She seemed anxious. “Sure.”
“Uhm… I’m Emma,” she said.
“I’m Lea. Did you already eat all of your food?”
Her lunchbox was empty. “Yeah, uh, I was really hungry!”
These are the two reasons why I didn’t believe that. One, she is as skinny as a stick. Two, we were only five minutes into lunch.
“Ok,” I decided to not say anything.
Her clothing looked sad: a beige turtleneck and grey sweatpants. Her muscles seemed shaky. Her body was weak.
“Well, you can have some of my pasta,” I said.
“Uh, well, uh…” she stuttered.
“I don’t want to share germs,” she said.
So I ran over to get a new spoon. Maybe I can help.
“I’m full, ok?” she seemed mad.
I made her mad. Maybe I’m just desperate. I looked over to my left and saw someone making a note. Now I might know the problem with Emma.
