Chapter 6: Gwennora
I have been feeling this immense dread over my head, and I can’t point out what it is. It is a beautiful sunny day, the birds are singing, the flowers are blooming, and the clouds are dancing. Okay, they aren’t, but it’s such a beautiful day that it’s creepy. But it’s not the strangely creepy beautiful day that is creeping me out. It’s something else I can’t quite put my finger on. Twice, I swear I’ve seen someone run across the rooftops, but when I go look, no one’s there. Aaron doesn’t notice it, but I know someone or something is there. To avoid being attacked, I put up a force field with a small bit on the bottom to let oxygen flow through, and I feel a tiny bit better. Aaron doesn’t even notice that I put one up. He is too busy sharpening his sword. I’m about to calm down fully when I hear the sound of someone walking across the rooftop, and my heart starts racing. They aren’t going to leave this time. I pull Aaron into a dark corner so it’s hard to see us, and shush him up. He gives me a look of half confusion and half anger, but I ignore him. Then something rolls in, and by the time I realize what it is, it’s too late. It’s a smoke bomb that cancels out magic, so they can’t remove anything or make anything. But it’s not me I’m worried about; it’s Aaron. It can be deadly to people who don’t have magic. It could stop their hearts, it could stop anything. I try as hard as I can to take the force field down because the smoke is building up, but it fails. I look at the open part and know for a fact that it is too small to fit through, just big enough for the bomb to roll through. But the open spot is only visible for 2 seconds when you create it, so that means the person would have to be there to see the hole. It has to be the person on the roof, I think. I look at Aaron, and he’s struggling. I feel my consciousness leaving me, and the last thing I can say is, Aaron.
