Chapter 5: Kalypso
When I finally got there, I looked around the place and thought, I’m not sure what his skill level is, but I’m still not going to underestimate him. I also am not going to underestimate my victim. I’ve done that before and it did not turn out well.
I put in some ropes, a couple of nails, temporary blinding gas, and other things. I also took my tranquilizer darts. I would never use them on a human unless I had to, like I had no other ideas, and I was about to die. This person I’m going to get might not be a person at all. Maybe it’s a gorilla wearing a wig. I threw in some food that wouldn’t perish until a while and set off. I hopped on my horse and set off. He said the bet would start at sunrise, but I’m just getting a head start, so I can beat this annoying person, no matter how good he is. I ride off into the sunrise, and I barely get anywhere when I see someone in the distance.
When I get closer to them, I said, “Get out of the way, this is for horses…” My voice trailed off when I saw who it is. It was that stupid Emile!
“Did you really think you could leave town without me noticing? I’m sure everyone could notice you.”
I felt my face turn red.
“At least I have some sense to tell the people I live with that I’m leaving!”
He looked at me in shock, then anger, and then he shook it off and smiled. Then he started laughing, “You really are feisty like everyone says!”
Now it was my turn to be surprised. “Who’s everyone?” I asked him.
“I don’t know, the place you just left, and where I came from.”
“Where exactly did you come from?” I asked him. I wanted to know how that was known. It would make sense if it was a neighboring town, but if it’s somewhere far away, I wanted to know how they knew.
He faced me and said, “I come-” and then stopped and turned away and said: “Where I come from doesn’t matter.” I was about to say something, but then he said, “We should start our separate searches. It’s already half an hour past 7.” Then he walked off.
I made sure I went the opposite way, because I was about to show him what I’m made of.
