FORT COLLINS- Many people may not know our head custodian, Mr. Wasgatt, since he only recently arrived at Webber. So, we wanted to give him the recognition he deserves and see some things that a custodian does behind the scenes.
Mr. Wasgatt has been a custodian for a while now, subbing for other head custodians and working at an elementary school.
“I was at an elementary school, and I was basically looking for a new challenge,” Mr. Wasgatt said.
There are a lot of things that people don’t realize about being a custodian. It takes a lot more time and effort than people realize. One of the things that is different from people’s interpretations of the job is that a lot of times he has to stay after school until 3:30 or 4 o’clock. Mr. Wasgatt also has to manage the other custodians to ensure that they are following protocol and doing their job well.
We’re sure one of many people’s questions is, what is the most unexpected thing he has had to clean up? One of the most unexpected things that Mr. Wasgatt has had to clean up is graffiti on a students locker. He had to work on getting it off for multiple hours until other employees came and painted over it. Surprisingly, Mr. Wasgatt has also had to climb up onto the roof to get a water key to the sprinklers off of it.
After a long day, everyone needs an escape. For Mr. Wasgatt, that includes taking care of his two cats, Whiskey and Marcy. As well as that, oftentimes he just sits, relaxes, reads a book, or watches a show. He also loves photography, disc golf, and spending time with his wife and two daughters, Jazlynn and Nani. Nani is a professional ballet dancer, so he often goes to Nani’s performances.
So far, Mr. Wasgatt has enjoyed his time at Webber, saying, “I love Webber. The staff here’s great. The student body has been really good.”
We appreciate Mr. Wasgatt for everything he does, and make sure you say ‘hi’ to him if you see him in the halls now that you know about all of the hard work he does for this school.
