One of Us is Lying: A review and recommendation

Welcome back, Panthers! I have a book recommendation for you all! This book series of three books is by Karen M. McManus and was recommended to me by my English teacher! Thanks, Mrs. West! This book is about four kids: Cooper Clay, a nice jock who’s really good at baseball, Bronwyn Rojas, a studious, pretty honors student, Nate Macauley, the school bad-boy who’s one strike away from jail, and Adelaide (Addy) Prentiess, the picture-perfect beautiful girl who’s dating the most attractive and popular student, Jake Riordan.

But as it seems… They all have secrets to hide. Secrets they’ve tried to forget about, secrets they’d never want getting out. And as it turns out… Someone knows, and plans to tell everyone.

Simon Kelleher, a boy who’s tried fitting in everywhere. Everyone hates him, except his only friend, Janae Matthews. But the thing is, you don’t want Simon holding a grudge against you. He somehow knows… Everything. Every secret, every scandal. It’s all in his app, About That. He reveals the dirtiest secrets and ruins people, one by one.

Until one day the four of them somehow managed to get into detention on the first day of school. Bronwyn was caught with a phone in her bag during class, but the thing is… She swears it isn’t hers. Something similarly suspicious happened with the other three.

Things are relatively calm until Simon drinks some water, and starts choking. The teacher wasn’t in the room where it happened. Only those four. Five went in, four came out. One sobbing, one shaken, one frustrated, and one shocked. But all of them terrified.

Simon died in detention that day, and suspiciously, he’d been teasing on his app to reveal four new dirty secrets. The four automatically become suspects.

What’s the truth? Who killed Simon? Was he in cahoots?
