Lemon: Chapter 2

Chapter 2

I’ve never known that I would have a sister that wasn’t like a sister. I’m talking about Lemon. I know I’ve only known her for a couple of hours, but I imagine her as my best friend. This feels like a forever sister. Like she’ll be with me forever. I’ll be with her all her school years, and she’ll be here for all of mine. 

Anyway, let’s not talk about that. Tonight I’m having a sleepover with my best friend. Lemon wants to come, but I know if I let her go, my friend would be in utter shock. And I kind of don’t want to do that to her. But I don’t want Lemon to feel left out, so maybe I can invite Lily over to my house. Also, Lily is my friend. My parents think that I should have told her about Lemon last week, but I think she would think I’m lying. I’m not lying. 

“Um, hey, Lemon. So you know how I’m having a sleepover with my friend tonight…” 

“Yeah I’m soooooooo excited to meet her, and I have a bunch of games we’re going to play. I’M SOO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!”  Lemon yells with a massive smile on her face. 

“About that, you can’t come. I know, but it’s her house, and I can’t just invite you over. She’ll think I’m crazy. I’m so sorry, Lemon. Maybe next time.” 

“What?” says Lemon with tears in her eyes.

Next thing I know, Lemon’s running upstairs crying. I try to go up, but she won’t let me. Her door slams shut. I hear the slight sound of her locking the door. I walk upstairs and sit against her door. I want to apologize, but she will just tell me to go away. I feel bad. I really do. But I can’t invite somebody else over to another person’s house that they don’t even know. I hope she can understand my reasoning for not letting her come. 

“Lemon, I’m sorry. I hope you can understand my reason. You will get to meet her soon. I can maybe invite her over here and you can hang out with us. I promise you will get to meet Lily. Lemon, please forgive me.”   

“Ok I will, but don’t do this to me again,” exclaims Lemon.

My phone starts going off like rapid fire. I quickly looked at my phone in case it was important. It’s Lily. She’s panicking. I don’t know why, but she’s going crazy. My mom starts texting me also. I haven’t been able to read them yet, but if my mom is also texting me, I think it’s serious. My phone rings; it’s my mom. I answer my mom. I put her on speaker, so Lemon could hear. She was frantic. I couldn’t hear what she said clearly, but I think she was talking about how I can’t hang out with Lily for a while. She didn’t say why. 

I look down at my phone to see that I have three hundred texts from Lily. I chose not to read them, because I don’t want to know what’s going on. I look at Lemon with a massive smile on my face.

“Hey, how about we have a girls’ night tonight?” I say to Lemon, trying to not think about what’s going on.

“Really? I thought you were maybe just going to sit around and ignore me,” Lemon replies.

“Yeah! I’ll have mom or Kaylie take us to the store to buy face masks, nails, lip kits, and a bunch of other fun stuff, and we can watch Stranger Things. I’m sorry about earlier, but I hope this makes up for it,” I say as I text the group chat with our mom and sister to see if Lemon and I can have a girls’ night. 

I wait for them to respond, and we start planning out our whole night. I got a text back from my mom saying “yah I guess I’ll have Kaylie take you guys to target and you guys have to agree on stuff. Bye love you.”  

“Lemon, mom said yes. Kaylie’s picking us up in fifteen minutes so we need to get ready and I can curl your hair if you want me to,” I tell Lemon, while turning on my curling iron.

“Yah, that would be amazing. Thanks Charlie,” Lemon replies. 

I put on my jeans that have little flowers on them and then my je-so-ra hoodie. I curl my hair. The heat makes me sweat. I spray on hair spray. It smells like vanilla. Lemon wears her same outfit as always, but she puts on a yellow hoodie with a lemon sewn onto the top right corner of the hoodie. On the back it says “Only some Lemons make such sweet lemonade.”  

Oh no, Kaylie just got here! “I need like five more minutes to get ready,” I text back to her. 

We finally get to Target and start planning the best sleepover ever!!! We got super soft blankets and weighted plushies. A bunch of candy and snacks. But we don’t talk about how much money we spent. I’m just gonna say it was in the hundreds. But here’s our shopping haul. So we got four blankets: pink, blue, green, and yellow. Next, we got Nerds gummy clusters, sour patch watermelon, peach rings, and gummy bears. We have weighted plushies. Next we got toucans and elephants that come in a two pack. So we both got one of each. Last, we got three different bags of chips: sour cream and onion, cool ranch doritos, and grillo pickle flavored chips. 

When we got home, we had to decide if we wanted to do a Hunger Games movie marathon or if we just wanted to watch the first one. We decided we were gonna do a movie marathon. 

We just finished setting up the area where we were gonna watch the movie. We blew up some mattresses and put on our blankets. I got blue and pink and Lemon got green and yellow.
