Chapter 3
I was standing in Mount Rainier National Park, enjoying the view when my mom told us we were moving on. I stepped back, intending to turn around, but my foot caught on a rock and I sprawled forward, straight off the edge of the cliff. Ohmygodohmygodimfallingoffacliffhelp. I was probably also screaming at an octave my choir teacher would be proud of. The wind rushed by my face as I tumbled through the air. When I flipped back around to face up, I saw a person diving after me, illuminated by the sun. As I watched, large, feathery things erupted from their back. They were pure white and long enough to block out the sun behind them. The thing shot down the cliffside, quickly catching up to me. It leveled out below me and I fell with a thump into its arms. Now that I was closer, I could see it was a girl, with tight black curls shadowing her face. She shot back up the mountain, depositing me safely away from the cliff edge and landing gracefully. My mother shot up and wrapped me in a warm hug, and I collapsed into her, sobbing with joy.
