Warning: Gory and human and animal death!
Chapter 1: Broken
Tears filled my eyes as I held my dog, Ozzy for the very last time. Her whimpers shortened as nothingness filled her eyes. Her breathing came to a close as she took her last breath whimpering. Sorrow filled my heart, and I ran out of the vet’s office. In the pouring rain, I looked at the dark cloud filled sky, and it washed away the tears. Eventually my mom ran outside to tell me to say goodbye one last time. I stared back at the vet, then the ground.
“No,” I breathed.
My mom nodded and flew her hand to my shoulder. “Go inside the car. Your clothes are getting soaked,” my mom uttered as she went inside to get my brother, Ralph.
It was a rainy afternoon, but I didn’t mind. All I wanted to do was lay down with a good book, while Ozzy slept beside me. Ozzy always liked me naturally better. Sometimes I would hug her, but she wouldn’t care. But when Ralph did the exact same thing, she growled. The whole night I couldn’t sleep, because tears kept me awake. Finally, I slept. I dreamt of Ozzy in my lap as I caressed her soft fluffy fur. That was the only night I felt like I was really happy for a long time.
A few years later, my best friend, Ellie and I got into a bad bet.
“You chickens! I bet you won’t,” my brother announced, holding a Ouija board.
“I don’t believe in THAT stuff, so I’ll only do it if Rune does it,” Ellie chirped, pointing to me.
My brother stared before giving me an evil smirk. “Chicken! Chicken!” my brother evilly said it over and over.
“I am not!” I angrily replied, clenching one fist.
“Then you’d do it!” Ralph said, throwing it into my arms.
“Fine, but if I die it’s your fault,” I sighed, opening it. Once I got it open, I put my hands on the thingy, as Ellie piled her clammy hands on it after me.
“Now just talk to it!” Ralph said.
“I know how it works, nerd,” I replied, rolling my eyes.
“Who are you?” Ellie eagerly started.
I stared at her, angry that she started without me.
Ellie mutters the words aloud. “O, Z, Z…Y?” she says confused. “Wasn’t that your dog?” she asked.
I shook my head in denial.
“It can’t be her,” Ralph muttered.
“It’s saying something!” Ellie suddenly shouts, then says it aloud again. “OZZY THE, R,E,T,R,I,E,V,E,R?”
I gasp.
“It’s her,” Ralph says.
It starts again. “F R E E M E?” I then read.
“How?!” Ralph passionately yells.
“ I N V I T E M E I N” Ellie was shaking while reading it.
“We invite you…In?” I was confused, as I said it aloud.
Our front door then flew open and the Ouija board smashed across the room. A knife appeared and wrote, carving the letters into the wood.
R U N, it spelled.
I got up, and Ralph’s eyes widened, “GO!”
