CHAPTER 1: JUNIPER
I awoke with fear, my eyes darting back and forth around the house. “Just a dream…” I sighed, staring at my closet. “I should probably get dressed,” I muttered under my breath, as my brother, Eric, burst through the door.
He then mumbled to himself before staring at me asking, “Did you see it?” Once I shook my head, he immediately ran over carrying his laptop. “I knew this would happen,” he started staring at the screen, signaling for me to read.
“Scientists’ experiment gone wrong: Experiment 236 escaped last week…?” I read aloud.
“So…? What do you think of it, Juniper?” my brother prompted.
“I honestly think it’s cliche. Now, can I change?” he stared at me in disbelief.
“Yes, but I bet mom and dad will agree with me!” he immediately sprinted out of my room. I rolled my eyes as I lay back down, forgetting all about changing my clothes.
I woke up to hear the biggest ringing in my ears as possible. “Ugh..” I got up and searched the room for my brother, or something else, but nothing. But I had the strange feeling I was being watched. Getting out of my head, I heard screaming, similar to my parents.
“Help! Juniper!” I heard my parents call out. I sprinted toward the sound of their voices. But once I located my parents, I stared, “Dad, mom! What’s happening-” My parents were eaten alive. Their eyes seemed to be falling out of their skulls, and their guts were lying out on the ground. Tears started to pour, but then I came to the scary realization. If they’re dead, who was calling out to me? I started to think, but then I heard my name. It was still my mom and dad. The voices were coming from behind me.
I turned around to see my brother, mimicking my parents’ voice. His jaw seemed broken, but in the right place at the same time. His bones were broken and bleeding, but he still stood up. His back bones were piercing through his skin. His eyes seemed to have fallen out. But the only things I could focus on were his breathing and this big bite mark on his seemingly out of place torso. All I heard coming from him were our parents’ whimpers and cries for help. I started to run, and I could hear him galloping close behind. He shrieked, and it sounded distorted. Like my parents’ and his screaming at the same time. I knocked into someone else, but they looked almost just as twisted as Eric. What was I going to do?
