Chapter 1
I’ve been living in Waverley, Colorado for a while now, a month to be exact, and I hate it here. I want to go back to New York. I want my old school back. I want my friends back. I want Alex back. Alex and I have been friends for forever. We did everything, and I mean EVERYTHING together. My parents didn’t even ease me into moving. You would think that they would. But no! And now I have to move halfway across the country to a little podunky town that no one has even remotely heard of while Alex and everything else I love stay in New York. Not to mention the weird stories going around about the behind, who is always behind you so you never see it. Then when the right time comes, it catches you completely off guard and then sneezes on you then you die because the snot is poison or something. Pretty weird stuff if you ask me. Like, who is dumb enough to believe that kind of stuff? The only person I know who would believe that kind of stuff is my little brother, Jack. He will believe anything, and I mean ANYTHING you tell him. One time, I was bored so I told him that when the rats in the sewer drink the sewer water, the water makes the rats grow 100 times bigger, then when they come out, the sun shrinks them into normal size. Well, he totally believed me, and now, whenever he sees a sewer drain, even if we aren’t in New York, he points at it, screams, and runs in the complete opposite direction. Like, how naive is this kid? Anyway, today, when my mom and I were unpacking the last living room box, I stumbled upon some thing interesting. It was a photo, but I didn’t think I’d seen it before. It was old and raggedy, slightly yellow, and I recognized it was me, maybe 6, but what caught my attention was the man I was next to. I asked my mom, and she said it was me with my dad. Wow, wasn’t expecting that. I haven’t seen him since he left us 8 years ago. Jack was too little to remember, but my older sister and I remember it clear as day.
