FORT COLLINS- After the retirement of the beloved principal Mr. Davis, the spot of principal at Webber Middle School is taken up by Mr. Steven Watkins. After leaving his position as assistant principal at Wellington Middle-High because of hearing so highly of Webber’s staff and students, he would also be closer to his home. Mr. Watkins was not looking for a different job; he was happy at Wellington Middle-High, but when he heard that Mr. Davis had retired, he had to, “Put my name in the hat.”
Mr. Watkins is a father to two kids, one 6th grader named Emmy and one 4th grader named Ezmay. He is also a husband to his wife named Katie. When he gets home, he looks forward to the evening when he and his family listen to a story, watch a show, or read together. He and his family also have a shepadoodle named Walter and a rescue cat named Tater Tot. When Tater Tot runs across the piano, they all call him Tater Swift.
When Mr.Watkins had to choose a college to go to, he went to Southern Nazarene University (SNU) for undergrad. Then, for his Master’s in Education, he went to Colorado State University (CSU). Before he came to Webber, he was a teacher, a para professional, and an assistant principal, as well as a professional photographer. Before he could get the job, he had to have lots of schooling and a wealth of experience and knowledge. As a principal, he has days of work that are amazing and some that are harder. But he is proud of the Webber students for being positive, welcoming, and good to the asks of the staff. He also has advice for all of the Webber students.
“Be kind, work hard, have fun.”
Now maybe you have asked a friend a question like, if you could have any superpower, what would it be? Well, have you ever wanted to know the principal of your school’s answer? Mr. Watkins’s answer to the superpower question is flying or invincibility! Maybe you have asked, what pet would you want if you could have any pet? Well Mr. Watkins’ answer is a dragon. Finally, if he could be any dinosaur, Mr. Watkins would be a Brontosaurus.
Next, Mr. Watkins shared more about who he is as a person. His birthday is on March 7th. Since a very young age, he has loved the Denver Broncos. When he was in school, he ran track and played football and basketball. There were not many clubs at Mr. Watkins’s school, but if he went to Webber, he would join the mountain bike club, e-sports, and science olympiad and do as many sports as possible. As a graduate, he does not have any school clubs to join, but he still has some fun hobbies like cooking, fishing, hiking, and foraging for mushrooms. Do you like or overuse the hand slap emoji? If you do, then you are like Mr.Watkins who has a love for the hand slap emoji!
Finally, we have the amazing Mr. Watkins’s favorite quote from Plutarch, “The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled.”
