We should be allowed to sleep in because high schoolers get the most sleep, then elementary, and then middle school. Why do we get barely any sleep? Kids are becoming adults, and we deserve sleep. More sleep would let kids pay attention to teachers more, because we’d be less tired in the morning. We are humans, so we need sleep. Yes, some people stay up really late. But all kids need sleep. Yes, it would make us get out of school later, but we need sleep. It’s not just students. Even teachers are sleepy in the morning! It would really benefit everyone, so please try it one day and see how we would act differently. We get virtually no sleep. If we woke up later, everyone would be so happy. Please let us sleep; it would change our world. Also, this age group of middle schoolers needs the most sleep according to research studies, but we get the least amount of sleep due to the early start times. Check out the infographic below from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This matters to us. For example, Kailani Knudsen, a 6th grade student at Webber shared, “I have to wake up too early, at 6:00 A.M, just to get ready. I think that we should wake up at 7:30 to be more healthy.” I hope you’ll reconsider our start times next year.
