How to Become a U.S. Air Force Officer

To become an Officer in the Air Force, first you have to know all the ranks! I’m going to list them in order from lowest to highest.

2nd Lieutenant

1st Lieutenant

Captain

Major

Lieutenant Colonel

Colonel

Brigadier General

Major General

Lieutenant General

General

General of the USAF

Next, we’ll go through the two requirements to become a USAF Officer:

You need a 4-year college degree (doesn’t have to be useful to the Air Force, like English, for example *no offense Ms. Young*)
You need to make it through Basic Training

This article is for my dad. He was enlisted, though. We’ll cover the enlisted later. My dad is a Msgt, or Master Sergeant. Thank you, Dad, for your 21 years of service (1997-2018).

Which grade are you in? 7th grade. What’s your experience with The Webber Weekly? This is my second year. I’m back! Why did you decide to join Newspaper Club? For two reasons: One is that Ms. Young is the G.O.A.T, and two is that I really enjoyed it lasted year. What’s a fun fact about yourself? My cousin is Makayla Douglas, who is also in this club! Ha-ha, what a coincidence… What’s your favorite book? JAWS by Peter Benchley. What’s your favorite thing to write about? Literally anything!

Why did you decide to join Newspaper Club? I joined, because my wonderful students asked me to help start this club! What’s a fun fact about yourself? I love type II fun, coffee, and poetry! Running, cycling, swimming, and hiking are some of my favorites. What’s your favorite book? I love anything by Mary Oliver, Ada Limón, and Joy Harjo! What’s your favorite thing to write about? I love to write poetry, reflections about life, teaching and learning, noticings of the world, and informational pieces.
