“When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.” -Summer Dawson (Character)
Welcome back to the TV suggestion of the week! This week’s suggestion is the book-based movie, “Wonder”! This tells the story of a fifth grader boy named Auggie Pullman going into fifth grade for the first time– with a facial difference. Follow Auggie’s story as he goes into Mr. Browne’s fifth grade class, struggling with mean kids and complicated friendships. Auggie lives in his home with his mother, played by Julia Roberts, his father, played by Owen Wilson, his dog Daisy, and his older sister, Olivia, played by Izabela Vidovic, where he was homeschooled by his mother for basically his entire life. In fifth grade, he learns to overcome his fear of people judging him and gains tons of confidence in himself. He soon learns not everyone he meets wants to make fun of him or judge him based on how he looks. Even though some people will, Auggie will eventually learn how to brush off the people who say or do mean things to him, and gains tons of confidence, eventually not needing to use the astronaut helmet he once wore everywhere to hide his facial difference. This story may be about Auggie, but some bits are actually from the perspective of multiple characters, like Auggie’s older sister, Auggie’s friend, and other people to see how their outlook on things is different from his. This storyline has tons of great plot, conflict, and drama. I definitely recommend this movie/book for you to enjoy in your free time, and hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
