There once was a cow named Genevieve. She was very unhappy where she lived, in a green pasture on Toodle Farms. Toodle Farms was fine other than the fact that she was separated from her one and only true love, dandelions. She loved to eat dandelions, but Toodle Farms had none. Oh, she hoped and dreamed that one day she could feast on dandelions again. So she made a plan to escape Toodle Farms. Her plan was to hop the barbed wire fence, get through the high security farm, and run away to her home town filled with dandelions. She will strike tonight! Genevieve started gearing up for a successful escape; she grabbed her spy gear, which included a lock picking set (Some twigs), a walkie talkie (A black rock), her trusty hoof sharpener (A sharp stick), and her invisibility spray (A slightly larger black rock). Nothing could stop her now!
She went to her pasture and pretended to fall asleep. She waited for farmer John to leave and made her move. She pushed some hay bales to form stairs, climbed them, and jumped! She was done with part one. Now to get through the high security farm. Just then, she saw farmer John coming towards her.
Why is he back already? She thought to herself.
She sprayed herself with her invisibility spray and waited. Soon she saw farmer John drive away. Farmer John was a nice man. He took her in when she was a young calf after her parents abandoned her. He fed her, brushed her, and treated her wonderfully. It would be sad to leave him, but it was worth it for the dandelions. She snuck into the farm’s security room and disabled the alarms. She thought about farmer John’s sad face when he would realize she was gone, but she pushed it aside and kept moving. As she moved farther into the farm she couldn’t shake the feeling thinking that this might be easy, too easy! Genevieve tripped on a string, which she immediately knew was a booby trap! Alarms started going off and she could hear footsteps running towards her. She started freaking out and could not help but moo in distress. She started running but had no idea where she was going. She felt something inject in her side and her vision blurred. She woke up the next morning in her pasture.
All of my progress! she thought in agony. I have to start all over again. She was so close to giving up but thought of her sweet, sweet dandelions. I can’t give up now, I have to try again.
So that night she tried again. She went through the steps again, except this time, she disabled the booby traps. She was so close she could taste those sweet, sweet, dandelions.
She was making her way through the farm and heard farmer John say, “Genevieve?” in a somber voice.
She turned around to see him standing there with a sad look on his face. She looked at him in sorrow and faced reality. She would never ever taste dandelions again; he would catch her, and never let her leave. Just then her sad thoughts were interrupted with a soft whisper.
“Go,” said farmer John. “Just go.”
Genevieve was caught off guard; he was letting her go? How? Why? Farmer John looked at her sadly.
“I see the way you look at the dandelions. You want to eat them and I understand that.”
Genevieve was happier than ever before. She would be able to eat dandelions, but was it worth leaving farmer John behind? After all, he was letting her go and was being so nice! She was so, so, so excited to eat some dandelions! She got lost in her thoughts but then looked up at farmer John and wished she could tell him that she wanted to stay, but she just missed the dandelions too much.
Then, Genevieve had a wonderful idea, what if she took farmer John to the dandelions and got him to get some dandelion seeds to plant in her field! She was so excited to tell him her great idea, but how would she tell him? He doesn’t speak cow. Then, she had another idea. She ran into farmer John’s office and grabbed a pen and paper, went back to farmer John, put down the paper, and started writing down her plan.
When farmer John read what she had planned, he smiled a huge smile and exclaimed, “Genevieve, this is such a good idea!”
Genevieve was so happy, she wanted to leave right now! She took out her hoof sharpener, sharpened her hoofs, and blasted through the farm door!
“Lets gooooooo!” Genevieve yelled (in cow language of course).
Farmer John got in his truck and started to drive after her as fast as he could. They drove for hours and hours until they reached a field filled with so many beautiful yellow dandelions. Farmer John got out of his truck and started gathering seeds. Farmer John got as many seeds as he possibly could and told Genevieve that it was time to go home. Just then, two beautiful brown cows that looked like Genevieve emerged from the bushes. Genevieve was in awe. It was her parents!
She was speechless but managed to say, “Mom? Dad?”
Genevieve was overwhelmed with shock, for she hadn’t seen her mom or dad for years and years. She couldn’t believe her eyes. She was not sure to be angry or glad to see them. Then she was filled with questions. Why did they leave me? Do they still love me? Can I ever forgive them?
Farmer John was also in shock; he had no idea what was happening or who these cows were. Then, he decided that if they were important to Genevieve, then they were important to him. So, he walked forward and introduced himself, “Hi.”
There was an awkward silence.
“I am farmer John,” he turned around feeling stupid. “Why are you talking to a cow, John? Who talks to a cow?” he whispered to himself.
The two cows looked at each other in confusion then turned back to Genevieve. They started to explain how when she was a little calf, she wandered off to eat some dandelions and never came back, and how they have been looking for her ever since. They also mentioned that they have missed her so much and were close to giving up right as they found her. Genevieve was filled with emotion! She was mad, sad, and glad to see her parents again.
Genevieve decided to put her hoof down and told her parents, “I missed you so much, but I have a wonderful life on Toodle Farms, and I am not sure I can come back to our old pasture to live with you. I love living with farmer John and will not go back!”
Her parents responded quickly saying, “We would never force you to do anything you would not want to do. So if you want to stay with farmer John on Toodle Farms then that is what you will do.”
Genevieve could tell her parents were so sad, but she could not be happier from how understanding they were. But just then farmer John stepped in with the most bewildering, perplexing, flabbergasting, marvelous idea ever! He could bring the dandelion seeds and Genevieve’s parents back to Toodle farms! Genevieve’s parents agreed without hesitation.
2 Months Later
It was two months later and Farmer John, Genevieve, and her parents were living happily on Toodle Farms. But one day when farmer John was returning from a drive, Genevive heard quacking coming from his truck. Genevieve thought it was best to run over and see. She ran over to farmer John and gave him an inquiring look. He looked back at her and pulled out a goose from the passenger seat of the truck.
“Meet Franklin!” Farmer John said, and put the goose down.
Franklin looked at Genevieve and said, “‘ello love, nice place you got ‘ere.”
Genevieve was excited. For awhile, it had only been her on the farm but now she could have a friend. Genevieve then introduced herself to Franklin
“Hi, my name is Genevieve. Where are you from?” she asked.
Franklin then told her about how he came from a place called Huckleberry Farms in England, and how he got sent here by his owner, Mr. McFrumperfumfler. He said that Mr. McFrumperfumfler was a cruel, greedy tyrant that only had a farm for money and that he had tons of them all over the world.
“I barely escaped that ‘ell’ole.”
Genevieve felt bad for the goose and decided to make Franklin feel welcome at Toodle Farms. The next day, Franklin walked outside of his feeding area and saw rocks on the ground leading towards his coop, as he walked into his little home. He was shocked because it was decorated with lights and a small hay bed. He turned around and saw Genevieve standing there smiling.
“Love, this is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me,” Franklin said, holding back tears.
Genevieve responded with an emotional, “No problem.”
Farmer John came up to Genevieve and Franklin and said, “I have a feeling that you guys are going to be good friends.”
Over the next couple of months, Genevieve and Franklin did become great friends, but one day Genevieve heard farmer John yelling, “Someone come quick! Franklin is hurt!”
Immediately when Genevieve heard this, she bolted to the scene to see Franklin scrunched up in a ball with specks of red on him. She could tell he was hurt. Farmer John went with Franklin to take him to the local emergency vet. Finally, Genevieve saw farmer John’s truck get back after what felt like the longest wait Genevieve had ever been through. When he pulled up to the driveway, she didn’t hear quacking.
“Franklin!?!”
She ran to him and saw his little bandaged body in Farmer John’s arms
“‘ello love, nice place you got ‘ere,” Franklin said as his little black eyes closed, and he breathed his last breath.
The End (for now…)
