In this opinion piece, Kailani explores two main reasons why students shouldn’t receive homework.
A first reason is that, “Students and families are suffering under the burden of huge amounts of homework” (“Key Lessons: What Research Says About the Value of Homework,” The Center for Public Education). This evidence shows that homework is a huge burden on families, especially when they have after school activities.
A second reason is that according to The Center for Public Education‘s article “Key Lessons: What Research Says About the Value of Homework,” “There is no conclusive evidence that homework increases student achievement across the board. Some studies show positive effects of homework under certain conditions and for certain students, some show no effects, and some suggest negative effects.” This evidence intrigues me, because, yes, there can be good effects from homework, but for most, kids are having trouble with homework. This could be for a variety of reasons, such as anxiety or depression.
